Fit Tip of the Month : Cross-Train Your Way to Success!

  • Cross-training, or the combining of two or more activities in an exercise program, is by far the safest and most effective way to reach all-around fitness. By alternating between different types of workouts-running and cycling, swimming and aerobics, tennis and golf - we are giving parts of our bodies a chance to rest while we work out others, and are helping to head off boredom that can set in when we stick with one sport day after day. Injuries due to overuse are minimized by varying our exercise program, and if we do happen to get injured, cross-training is a good way to keep in shape while recovering. Even world-class athletes who have to practice one particular sport regularly know the value of cross-training in helping to develop other skills and muscles.
  • Run. Bike. Swim. Play tennis. Ski. Do StairMaster. Walk. Take group fitness classes. There are so many choices out there. Exercise should not be a chore. Take your pick from the incredibly varied menu, and enjoy the many ways we can work out our bodies.
